YOUR PURLEY BURY NEWSLETTER – JUNE 2017
Sunday 25th June – “Another Brick in the Wall”.
The “Another Brick in The Wall” campaign got off to a great start on Sunday, 4th June, when £100 was raised by Carolyn, Craig and Chris Backway, who organised a fun tournament for their Drama Group – many thanks to all involved, and well done Carolyn, Craig and Chris.
Don’t forget, for the main event on Sunday 25 June, we have a day of tennis coaching and general merriment, leading hopefully to more funds being raised for the refurbishment of facilities in the club house and on the courts. Starting at 10.00am and finishing late, our principal guest is GB Davis Cup player Danny Sapsford. Danny was a first class British professional tennis player once ranked 170 in the world. We now know he will be accompanied by Josh Goodall formerly British No 2 and also a Davis Cup player.
All members, members families and friends and our neighbours are invited. To sign up for coaching see the notice board adjacent to the bar. It will be a great day, with BBQ, Prosecco Bar, a Cronx beer stall, a cake table and Strawberries and Cream as well! We’ve invited the Mayor and the Croydon Advertiser to record the event. We still need more helpers to set up, run, and put away on the day. Please consider signing up for just one hour to maximise the benefits that will be achieved for the club – details are on the notice board on the bar.
The junior coaching programme continues to thrive and we are looking forward to the annual closed club tournament for players aged from 6u to 18u.
Friday nights continue to be busy with Steph and the team but we would encourage all of our members to being along any friends or friends of friends to enjoy the bar that is open from 5pm and of course the junior pay and play session that is just £2/£3 per child attending for a supervised hour of fun tennis games.
Summer holidays will be fast approaching and this year we will be running 7 weeks of camps in the mornings for 4-14 year olds and teen tennis in the afternoons for children aged 11-16 yrs. see firstname.lastname@example.org for more details.
Tennis For Kids an LTA initiative offering 6 weeks free coaching and a racket given at the end for each of the 10 children attending has gone well and we start our next batch after half term. We are hoping some of those attending will join the junior coaching programme and the club.
We are delighted to announce Robbie Watt has volunteered to join the committee
The membership renewal process is now complete. Thank you to all of you for paying so promptly. We have successfully sustained both our membership numbers and our revenue compared to last year with a few comings and goings, and we hope to welcome more new members as the year progresses
The lucky winners in the ballot for Wimbledon tickets carried out by the LTA for the club are:
Charlotte Walker, Jesus Bermej, Tamara Buamah, Emily Bear, Paul Glazebrook, Valerie Cutmore, Colette Ramuz, David Stantiall, Philip Mills, Ben Wade, Alison Wright, Lynne Dawson, Mark Latham, Marian Wade, Julia Mouna
All have been advised separately how to claim their tickets.
If you have a few minutes to spare when you are down at the club, spare a thought for the flowers in the hanging baskets. They would really appreciate some water from time to time especially in the hot and dry weather
