The Courts will be closed from 18th September until 15th November 2019.
Great news, we are about to get underway with the replacement of the lights and courts. Work will start on 18 September and is scheduled for completion by 15 November, 2019. Because we have been able to secure funding for a substantial part of both the floodlight and courts restoration, we are able to progress both at the same time thereby optimising the the sequencing of the work and reducing the outage time for the courts to 8 weeks, plus a week in the spring for repainting. While the courts are out of action the arrangements for tennis are:
Adult Club Sessions
Monday and Thursday rota sessions will take place at Croydon High Sports Club, Old Farleigh Road, Selsdon, South Croydon, CR2 8YB from 7-8.30 / 8.30-10 on 4 courts.
Please see rota from your organiser. Further information regarding access and balls availability will be circulated shortly.
By the time we start using outside courts, floodlights will be required for each full session. The £2.25 per person fee will need to be collected by each captain and paid to the club – details to follow. Rusty rackets will take place on a Monday night from 8.30-9.30 at Croydon High Sports Club – 2/3 courts
Wednesday night will be men’s and ladies match practice combined, as courts are unavailable at Croydon High Sports Club on a Tuesday. Amy and Chris to collect £2 each week for balls and lights. Sessions will run 7.30 pm – 9.30 pm, or there will be two sessions 7 – 8.30 pm and 8.30 -10 pm. Club Captains will advise on this subject to numbers attending each week.
Wednesday and Thursday mornings will be available at South Croydon Sports Club, Beech Copse, Birdhurst Rise, South Croydon, Surrey, CR2 7ES, Confirmations regarding courts booked just for PBTC players, or arrangements for mixing in with social Club play, will be advised after consultation with the respective groups.
Access and balls availability will be advised in the next email. Saturday afternoons and Sunday mornings will be an opportunity to mix in for social tennis at South Croydon Sports Club. PBTC members mixing in with any of the social sessions at SCSC will be expected to pay a £2 visitors fee at their office, which will be refunded by PBTC.
Junior coaching and disability sessions will continue at either Sanderstead LTC (Penwortham Road) or Sanderstead Village LTC (Sanderstead Court Avenue). MDL will be in touch and will hand out information at our first couple of sessions back and will send out messages via the MDL App and email.
Bar
The bar will still be available for use. The car park and Brancaster Lane entrance will be closed, but access will still be possible via Purley Bury Avenue. The Bridge Club will continue to use the Clubhouse on Thursdays, and Pam’s Quiz night will go ahead on 28 September. Members wishing to use the bar will need to consult Robbie and be prepared to open, close and serve themselves.
Sarah Wilson is coordinating the refurbishment of the bar, which she hopes to complete by 15 November. If you are prepared to help, please contact Sarah at Sarahcrid@talktalk.net A more detailed request for support will be sent out soon.
We also hope to refurbish the top building by 15 November (but being careful to take account of any potential General Election!). A request for a working party will be sent out by Michael, or you can offer to help by emailing mjvaughan1@gmail.com
Pam’s Quiz Night – Saturday, 28 September, 2019
There is still room for a couple more teams. The bar will be open from 7 pm and the quiz will start at 7.30 pm. The total cost will be £9 each including fish and chips (£6) which will be available to order.
There will be 6 people per team and only 1 person in the team needs to be a member so do invite your friends.

Celebratory Event – Friday, 29 November, 2019
We propose to hold a celebratory event once the work on the floodlights and courts is complete. The Junior and Disabled sessions will take place as usual under the new lights and will be supplemented by a tennis and social event for all members and which is likely to be attended by our grant providers and other dignitaries. This will be one NOT to miss, please put it in your diary NOW!
