Membership Renewals Deferred – Your Purley Bury Newsletter April 2020

These are difficult times for all of us. We hope you are keeping well and coping within the constraints we must endure for the foreseeable future.

It is, of course, nearing the end of the membership year, and we would normally be sending out renewal letters about now. However, these are not normal times. We are not able to play tennis and our whole lives have been disrupted in so many ways. In the circumstances, the Club Trustees and the Management Team have decided to defer sending out renewal letters until at least the end of April, when we will review the situation again. At the same time, we are extending your existing membership by one month to 31 May 2020

Meanwhile, life goes on. The Management Team met by conference call on 1 April. We would welcome any suggestions members may have for keeping in touch. We have a gallery facility on the website where we could post pictures and videos. We are also considering whether we could run an online quiz. Just one plea: please show respect for one another at all times and only use contact details obtained through the club appropriately.

You will obviously have seen that Wimbledon has been cancelled this year so there will be no tickets through the Club. We have postponed our own tournament and our hope is that we will be able to run it when we are able to play again as part of a relaunch for the Club. One piece of helpful news is that our landlord has agreed not to charge us rent while the Clubs are closed.

Something you could do to help the Club is to use easyfundraising when you shop online with any of its 4,000 retailers. The retailer makes a small donation to say thank you and easyfundraising send those free funds to us. All you have to do is sign up using the following link, which will tell you everything you need to know:

https://www.easyfundraising.org.uk/causes/purleyburytc/?invite=7Z9NB7&referral-campaign=c2s

Once you have raised your first £5, easyfundraising will match it. Seven members have already signed up and have raised £134.25 for the Club, with £31.38 raised in March 2020.

For Juniors, parents and the young at heart, please see this link with lots of skills you can practise at home – https://www.lta.org.uk/play-compete/lta-youth/tennis-at-home/

Also, it’s competition time for our Junior players. We want you to think up a tennis drill which you can either describe in an email or send in a small video by email or phone to Mark Love – mdlcoaching@hotmail.com  07761 602014 and he will use it once we return on court. The best couple of drills will win a prize of a tennis racket. Please give it a name as well. Drills to be in by Easter weekend!

Take care and stay safe
