Your Purley Bury Newsletter – May 2020

Whilst the club is currently shut, the management of PBTC goes on!

We hope you are all keeping fit and well. Unfortunately, to comply with the lockdown all our buildings and facilities remain closed and are not to be used, but there are still plenty of ways you can stay fit for tennis!  Check out the drills and fun ways to keep up your game on Mark’s Facebook page – right-click to play and unmute

Membership Renewals

The Club Trustees and the Management Team have decided to defer sending out renewal letters until at least the end of May, when we will review the situation again. At the same time, we are extending your existing membership by a further month to 30 June 2020.

Volunteers

Despite the club closure some essential maintenance tasks have had to be carried out and we would like to thank the following members for their invaluable help with them under the restrictions:

  • Tom Pollon for making the shed roof watertight and repairing the guttering on the Top Building
  • Dave Winton for cutting the hedges and grass
  • Sarah Wilson for tending the garden
  • Jeff Goveia for clearing the rubbish from the car park
  • Michael Vaughan for several bits of building maintenance

VE Day Celebrations

You may remember that we were planning to hold a weekend of celebration at the club to commemorate the 75th anniversary of VE Day.  Due to the lockdown restrictions we are not able to put on the activities that we had originally planned. However, we will be organising some virtual events for members and their families to join over the weekend.

Further details will be sent out nearer the time, but here is a taster of what we have planned and we would love you to join us!

On Friday the 8th we’ll be joining the ‘Stay at Home Street Party’, connecting members to each other via Zoom and making a toast at 3pm with the nation.  On Saturday 9th we’ll be hosting a virtual quiz and on Sunday we’ll hold a virtual tea party and bake-off, with other activities and challenges too.

Take care and stay safe. Things will get better!
