Your Purley Bury Newsletter September 2020 – Courts now available until after the Bank Holiday

Courts now available until after the Bank Holiday
Due to the inclement weather, the painting of the courts has been delayed and will not now commence until Tuesday 1 September 2020 – weather permitting – with completion by 11 September 2020. The good news is that means the courts will now be available for us to use until after the Bank Holiday Weekend.
Floodlight Fees
We are pleased to announce that floodlight fees for the early and late club sessions on Monday and Thursday evenings will revert to £2.25 per person per session in September. There will be no charge for tennis balls now we have a supply of used balls in good condition which have been quarantined.
Don’t forget, payment should be made at the end of the month by BACS to avoid unnecessary handling of cash to:

Tournament Dates
If you would like to be included in this year’s tournament, please send an email to pbtctournament@gmail.com with the following information by Midnight on August the 31st:

Name
Mobile/Home Phone Number
Email Address
Disciplines you want to enter (e.g Men’s Singles & Mixed Doubles etc.)
If doubles disciplines, please state your pre-arranged partner for those events or if you would like to be paired up by tournament organisers

Unfortunately the delay to the repainting of the courts does mean that the first round matches cannot be played over the weekend of 5th-6th of September. The draw will still take place on Tuesday 1 September and the aim is to complete the tournament on Sunday 25th October 2020, but we can be flexible about exactly when matches are played. We would encourage you to play your matches as soon as possible once the courts are available again to avoid a logjam of matches as we get into October.
Maintenance
We are still looking for a member willing to coordinate maintenance for the Club. The commitment should be no more than an hour a week on average, because the requirement is to coordinate work with other members rather than taking on tasks directly, possibly by forming a maintenance sub-group. We are fortunate to have a number of members willing to take on specific jobs for the club and join in working parties, and our ethos is that all members should do what they can when they can to help with the running of the Club. That is what makes our Club what it is. Please help us by volunteering to co-ordinate or join the subgroup.
Thanks to Chris Watts, Sarah Wilson and Martin Hopgood for lopping the tree overhanging Court 5. Thanks also to Michael Vaughan for repairing the decking outside the bar which was a serious safety hazard.
Bar
We have taken delivery of a new ice machine for the bar courtesy of our lighting contractor. Robbie Watt has also arranged to stock Staropramen.
“Staropramen, perfectly balanced for over 150 years, is a traditional Czech Pilsner which is brewed with passion using the finest ingredients including premium Czech hops. It has a fine hoppy, slightly fruity aroma and a refreshing balanced taste”.
The supplier has provided new piping, so the bar will be in good shape when we are able to use it again.
