New Chairman
We are delighted to report that the Trustees have appointed Robbie Watt as Chairman of your Purley Bury Tennis Board and Management Team. Robbie has been an outstanding Manager of the Bar and PBTC Social for several years and most recently has turned his attention to running the Club Tournament in a similarly efficient fashion. We are confident that he will also be an outstanding Chairman who will lead our Club out of lockdown and on to future developments.
Management Team Membership
Alison Brown, our Social Co-ordinator, has stepped down from the Management Team due to pressure of other commitments. We are sorry to lose Alison who not only contributed to social events when we were allowed to run them, but also was always willing to help with the general running of the Club. We are not losing her entirely because she will still be playing tennis and helping out when she can. Thank you, Alison, for all your hard work.
We always welcome new members to the Management Team and with Alison’s departure we have a specific vacancy for a Social Co-ordinator. We also need a Maintenance Co-ordinator. These are vital roles for sustaining our Club so we are looking for volunteers to fill these roles or to help on an ad hoc basis. Please speak to any Management Team member if you think you can help.
Tournament Finals Day
Our Senior Finals Day will be on Sunday 18 July 2021. Junior Finals Day will be on Saturday 17 July 2021. Robbie will be sending out details of the Senior Finals Day next week, and Mark Love will keep you informed of plans for the Juniors. We do want the Club to look its best so we will be organising working parties on the two weekends prior to the finals days to tidy up the grounds. Please help if you can. We will also need volunteers on the day to umpire the matches. Spectators are allowed, provided we are sensible and comply with the restrictions in force.
We will need volunteers to serve at the bar on the day and to help with the provision of refreshments and cakes.
Donations
Sometimes Members and friends of the Club choose to make donations to support both the work we do in the Community and the general development of the Club. Should you wish to make a donation, it is a very simple process:
Go to www.purleyburytennisclub.net and scroll down the front page until you see ‘Donations & Sponsorships’ (5th box across), click on that and scroll down to the blue box:
DONATE TO PBTC
Click on that and follow the instructions, remembering to enter your eligibility for Gift Aid if that is the case, as the club will benefit from a further 25% without extra cost to the donor.
Membership Renewals
You will recall that we extended the 2020/21 membership year to 30 June 2021 because of the loss of opportunity to play in parts of the membership year. We will be sending reminders to those of you who have not renewed and may still want to. We will also be making social membership of PBTC Social available again once we are able to open the Bar normally.
Tennis
Our Club is a vibrant place at the moment with members relishing the opportunity to play again. The Tournament is running well with matches more or less on schedule. The Leagues are up and running and our teams are in action. Our Disability Tennis sessions are busy and the Over-50s sessions are fully booked. Rusty Rackets is ever popular. All in all, Purley Bury Tennis Club is a good place to be.
ENJOY YOUR TENNIS!
