We are excited to announce this year we will be hosting the first ever Purley Bury winter tennis tournament.
We will be organising the competition in 4 different disciplines:
Ladies’ Doubles
Men’s Doubles
Mixed Doubles
Non-Team Players Unisex Doubles
For the first three competitions, you cannot enter with a partner you played with in the Summer tournament. Club team players are also encouraged to pair up with a partner from a different team at the club, although that will not be enforced.
For the last discipline, club players who have not represented Purley Bury in Surrey leagues are encouraged to enter with pre-arranged pairings of any gender combination. You can also enter without a partner though and if numbers allow, organisers can pair players off. To clarify, this discipline is only for people who have not played for the Ladies’ (1st – 3rd) Teams, the Men’s (1st – 4th) Teams or the Mixed Doubles (1st – 3rd) teams in the last year. For a full list, please find attached.
The competitions will start in February and run until the end of March. There will be no plates running alongside the main draws. There should be ample court time to get the matches played, specifically on Saturday afternoons, but we encourage members to book via ClubSpark as normal. The format of the matches will be fast and fun with the following rules:
- The first to FOUR games wins the set. First to 2 sets wins the match.
- Tie breaker at 3 – 3 in any set.
- No advantage scoring. If the score reaches deuce, it’s a sudden death point. The receiver choses which side to take the serve on.
We will make the draw at the end of January and there will be a kick-off session on Saturday the 4th of February where we encourage you to come down and play some first round matches. Because of the format, you could even play more than one match. You do not have to be available to play on the 4th to enter though.
Finals day to be confirmed, but likely to be Sunday 26th of March. England will be playing Ukraine so after tennis we could watch some football!
