Under Starter’s Orders?
Not just yet. There is still time to register your attendance at the Purley Bury Charity Race Night, scheduled for Saturday 25 November 2023, by emailing pbtcracenight@gmail.com.
Bring your friends and family to enjoy a fantastic, fun evening, with virtual horse races. The event features previously televised horse races, which will be projected onto the large screen in the Club House for all to see, and you’ll feel the excitement build as the horses get under starter’s orders and race down the track to the finishing post. With bookies and a tote, it’s very easy to place your bets for your chance to win.
There will be a fully stocked bar, so you can enjoy a really fun night. Dress code is ‘Anything goes’! Doors open at 7pm, with the first race at 7.30pm.
Whether you can attend or not, you can still get involved by purchasing a horse for £5 in advance (you can name your horse and, if it wins, you’ll also receive prize money). The horse with the best name will also receive a prize. Horses can be purchased in the bar.
All proceeds from the evening will go towards funding the disability tennis sessions, which are run every Friday afternoon/early evening by MDL Coaching and volunteers.
Private Parties
Do you or your friends need a venue for your party? Why not hire the Club House at Purley Bury? It is only £60 for four hours, 7pm-11pm, or during the day. Bar staff cost £15 per hour, with one person being required for up to 40 guests and two for more than 40. Cleaning up afterwards costs £25. The Club House can be hired by both Tennis Club Members and Social Members. Social Membership can be purchased for £20. For full details, see http://purleyburytennisclub.net/venue-hire/
Unclaimed Trophies
We have a number of trophies, awarded for the 2023 Summer Tournament, still awaiting collection in the Club House. Any remaining unclaimed at the end of November 2023 will be recycled!
Sponsors
Do you or someone you know have connections with an organisation interested in supporting us? Sponsors play a crucial role in maintaining our facilities and community programs, such as Disability Tennis. We’re excited to explore sponsorship opportunities that can keep our club thriving. Please reach out to Tony Camacho to discuss potential partnerships. With your help, we can continue to grow and ensure our tennis legacy remains strong.
Junior Coaching – Winter Sessions
Please can all players attending coaching during the winter months be prepared when attending their session. Please dress according to the weather. Wear lots of layers, bring gloves and a hat. Have a water proof on hand in case of rain.
If sessions need to be cancelled as courts are unplayable then the MDL coaching team will email and send a notification via the app. Please resist texting the coaches to ask if the session is ON as if you do not get a response if is probably because they are teaching a session and therefore unable to reply especially if teaching in the rain.
If players wish not to attend a session due to the weather or illness they are able to make up the missed session at another time in the term. Ask your coach for details of when make up sessions can be taken.
Autumn Leaves
The Autumn leaves are falling now. If you have a few moments to spare when you next visit the Club, please help by sweeping up the debris, especially on the verandas. You will usually find a broom next to the kitchen side of the Club House, and if you are very enthusiastic, black rubbish sacks are kept in the box in the same vicinity
And finally………..
If you are last to leave any of the buildings, please make sure you turn the heaters off or back to their frost-free settings, turn off any lights and lock the doors.
