Purley Bury Tennis Club AGM 6 March 2024

We are pleased to announce that this year’s AGM will be held on Wednesday 6 March 2024 at 8pm in the Clubhouse and we look forward to seeing as many of you there as possible. If there are any issues you would like included on the Agenda please let us know by Monday 19 February 2024 either by speaking to one of the Management Board or by email to  mail@purleyburytennisclub.net. The Agenda and relevant papers will be distributed by Wednesday 21 February 2024.

Tennis for a Tenner

Once again we are making an introductory offer of ‘Tennis for a Tenner’ to new adult members who want to play for the remainder of the 2023/24 season which ends on 31 March 2024. This is a great opportunity for players to sample what we have to offer as a Club. So please tell any of your friends and acquaintances who might be interested and put them in touch with Sarah Wilson.

GET ON COURT AND BRUSH UP YOUR TENNIS SKILLS WITH MDL COACHING

ADULTS

Monday 8.30pm-9.30pm – Rusty Racket Session – For adults looking to return back to tennis or looking to learn a new skill to brush up their skills in order to eventually mix in with adult club sessions

Friday 9.15am-10.45am – Club Players Morning Coaching Session – Open to all members of the club who are already involved in rota sessions or teams looking to develop their tactical awareness for doubles and looking to practise and develop their tennis skills with a series of tennis drills each week. Come along and hit lots of balls and have fun!

Friday 11am-12pm – Over 50’s Coaching Session – For those players who are more mature and looking to develop their tennis skills, make new friends and take part in our fun drills at not such a fast pace. Nevertheless, still a good workout and lots of fun

For any of the above and if you wish to attend any of these sessions please email Mark Love at mdlcoaching@hotmail.com

JUNIORS

Loads of sessions available midweek and on a Saturday morning for players aged 4yrs and upwards of all standards of play.

Holiday Fun Tennis every school holiday for teenagers and those at primary school. Book via the mdl coaching tennis booking App.

DISABILITY TENNIS SESSIONS

We are recruiting for volunteers to help at these sessions each Friday from 5.15pm-6pm (Kids) and 6pm-6.45pm (Adults). It is very rewarding for all those involved and as the programme grows we are seeking more volunteers including juniors and adults.

Contact Mark Love for more information and how to get involved at mdlcoaching@hotmail.com

Maintenance

Do you have any DIY skills you’d be willing to lend us on the odd occasion? We need Members to do minor repair work around the clubhouse and grounds.

Our Maintenance Co-ordinator, Katherine Willis, would like to form a pool of willing helpers to share the jobs around so it does not become burdensome on any one person. At the moment we are too dependent on one or two Members to do all the jobs which is not really fair. So if you are able to help on an occasional basis with jobs taking up to half an hour (OK maybe an hour!) please let Katherine know.

Ideas For Social Events
We are keen to develop the social side of the Club this year and we would welcome suggestions from Members for events they would be interested in. We hope to run at least  a quiz night and a Race Evening. Would anyone like to organise a ‘Traitors’ event?!

February is Heart Month

We have a defibrillator on the veranda at the Club but would you know what to do if someone collapses?

February is the British Heart Foundation’s Heart Month and they have an interactive mobile training package available on-line which tells you what to do @

https://www.bhf.org.uk/how-you-can-help/how-to-save-a-life/how-to-do-cpr/learn-cpr-in-15-minutes. It takes just 15 minutes. In the real situation you would only have a few minutes to make a potentially life saving difference so it is well worth taking a look.
