Senior Tournament Finals Day on Saturday 13 July 2024

Senior Finals’ Day (Saturday 13th July) is fast approaching. The tournament is running well and some fantastic matches have been played. Senior Finals Day is the highlight of the Club’s year and we hope as many of you as possible will be able to attend to enjoy the tennis, the barbecue, the refreshments and, of course, the company of your friends at the Club. We also hope many of you will help make it a great day by volunteering to assist with the preparations and for a little while on the day – see below for details of how you can help.

Order of Play – The day itself will consist of 9 finals played on two courts. An order of play for the main and the plate tournaments, with timings, will be published five days before the event, and this year we will be presenting the trophies at intervals during the day.

The Bar will be open from 10am and will be serving drinks (including mojitos, prosecco and Pimms). Ice poles, jubblies and Magnums will also be available. Payment at the bar can be made by both cash and card.

The BBQ will be from around midday onwards. Vegan / vegetarian alternatives will be available. If you wish to purchase anything from the BBQ, please pay at the bar and show your receipt when collecting your food.

Refreshments – Complimentary squash and water will be made available in the kitchen. Self-service tea and coffee will also be available throughout the day, with strawberries and cakes also being served from the kitchen from around 2pm. To enjoy these delicacies, and the hot drinks, please purchase a refreshments pass from the bar (£3).

HELP! There are details of each activity and who will be co-ordinating below, so please let the individuals know how you can help either directly or via the Tournament email address: pbtctournament@gmail.com

The Grounds Working Party will be held between 9am and 12pm on Saturday 29 June. Just half an hour of your time will be a big help. Typical jobs will include: window cleaning, tidying kitchen cabinets, veranda glass cleaning, weeding, pruning, litter picking, sweeping, tidying. Please let our Maintenance Co-ordinator, Katherine Willis, know if you can help, or just turn up on the day.

On Friday night of 12 July, the courts will need to be cleared of any debris and old balls, nets checked, umpires’ chairs erected, chairs provided for players – Co-ordinator, Mark Love

On the day, we will need help with: setting out chairs, tables and bins; umpiring of matches; setting up self-service of hot and cold drinks, supplying water jugs to players; serving at the Bar; overseeing the refreshments; emptying bins; and putting away furniture afterwards. A member of the Management Team will be co-ordinating each activity and organising a rota so that volunteers spend only a limited amount of time helping out, and not before any matches they may have!

Senior Finals Day activities where we need volunteers:

  • Bar – volunteers to serve – Co-ordinator, Nik Balzer
  • Refreshments – we need volunteers to make cakes, and to serve cakes and strawberries during the afternoon, in one-hour slots, and to oversee self-service of tea, coffee and soft drinks – Co-ordinator, Katherine Willis
  • Umpiring – We need 10 volunteers to umpire one match each – Co-ordinator, Gaz Walsh
  • Raffle – we need a volunteer to organise this on the day
  • Clearing up afterwards! Everyone to leave the Club as they found it, taking their rubbish home or putting it in bins.

Dont forget, we have the Junior Tournament coming up as well, all on one day on Saturday 6 July, starting at 12.00 noon. Details will be emailed out soon with timings etc for each event. If you have NOT yet entered you have until Wednesday 26/6 to enter by emailing Mark Love at mdlcoaching@hotmail.com
